Sun City Center Tennis Association
Executive Board Meeting March 5, 2009
Present: Bruce
Chambers, Les Easton, Don Larsen, Carol Holbrook, Linda Smith, Petra Stimmel, and
Donna Waikel. Also present: Larry Messick and Roger Detrick.
President Bruce Chambers
called the meeting to order at 1:00 P.M.
The minutes from the February
20, 2009 Emergency Executive Board Meeting were read by Carol Holbrook and
approved.
TreasurerÕs Report: Don
Larson announced that the budget continues to be in good shape. The five-year maintenance agreement
with the CA of $8,000.00 was paid at the beginning of February.
Membership Report: Donna
Waikel reported that to date the TA has 225 paid members. The TA Executive Board voted to support
DonnaÕs suggestion to send an invitation to all new CA members to join the TA.
PresidentÕs Report: Bruce
Chambers received a letter from Jerry Ash stating that he is now following the
rule, which states that Kings Point residents may only use the courts once a
month for each individual guest.
JerryÕs Good Neighbor Tennis Club plays three days a month at Kings
Point and one day a month at Sun City Center.
The violation of the TA rule,
that bikes cannot be ridden within the tennis court complex, was
addressed. A motion to walk all
bikes to and from the bike racks within the court complex was passed
unanimously.
The TA Executive Board
rescinded the last meetingÕs vote to vote on CTC court usage times by TA
members at the next General TA Meeting.
There must be a separate General TA Meeting immediately after the
General TA Meeting on March 18th to vote on this issue. A letter explaining this will be sent
to all members. This is necessary
to be in compliance with the Rules of Order. Les Easton made a motion that the TA should have this
Special Meeting at a different time rather than after the General TA Meeting on
March 18, 2009. This motion was
not seconded. Bruce explained that
getting an appropriately sized room later could not be done in the referendumÕs
time frame of March 20, 2009. All
rooms are booked.
The issue of the TA having
exclusive use of CA tennis courts was research by Bruce. There was a 1992 court agreement
between the CA and the TA that gave the TA exclusive use of the 4 new (at that
time) tennis courts (courts 1-4) only.
No other agreement could be found. Roger Detrick concurred.
Social Report: Linda
Smith reported that 104 people attended the ValentineÕs Dinner Dance. There are 100 people signed up, so far,
for the March 8, 2009 Picnic.
Sunnys is catering. Petra
Stimmel has ordered the T-shirts for Funfest on March 21, 2009. They will be ready on March 16th
at a cost of $1,388.86. We will
charge $10.00-$15.00 for them.
Great job Linda and Petra.
Nancy Williams says that there are 60-80 people, so far, participating
in the April 4, 2009 Funday Tournament.
Petra will reserve the necessary rooms by April 2, 2009 for next yearÕs
social functions.
General Business: A new
member, Danie Vance, addressed the TA Board regarding a letter she recently
sent to Bruce. She is concerned
that her tennis coach is not a CA or TA member. His name is Tal Kennan, and he lives in Kings Point. Danie was informed that as a TA member
she can have a registered instructor, but the money he is paid must first go to
the TA and the TA would then pay him due to tax laws. Also, he would need to show proof of liability insurance
which must be given to the TA. She
was shown the Rules and Regulations regarding tennis instruction. Don Larson gave her his phone number to
get the form.
Donna Waikel made a motion
that Ron Hammaker be given the $75.00 back that he paid for a member to
join. The member did not want to
join. TA Executive Board passed
her motion unanimously.
The ball machine remote is broken. Tony Holbrook contacted the company and was told it is no longer manufactured, and a substitute has not yet been found. Whether to buy another machine will be brought up at the TA General Meeting on March 18, 2009.
The TA Executive Board
addressed each proposal of the membership referendum regarding CTC court usage,
which will be voted on March 18th during a Special Meeting. It was decided by the TA Executive
Board and Larry Messick that Proposal 1 does not apply. There is priority court time available
other than 9:00 A.M for TA members.
TA members will still be able to play even with the CTC using 3 courts
at 9:00 A.M. on Wednesday and Saturday.
Also, we have 10 courts.
Regarding Proposals 2 and 3, Bruce pointed out that according to
RobertÕs Rules of Order, the TA General Members vote of 2007 can be overruled
by a higher authority. Since the
CA ruled that the CTC be given 9:00 A.M. time on Saturday, the TA Executive
Board can give the CTC 9:00 A.M. court times according to the TA By-Laws,
Article III, Section 2. The CA
ruling nullified the General MemberÕs vote of 2007. The TA Executive Board made a motion for a maximum of 10
minutes for each side of this debate to state their positions. Any discussions from the floor should
be 2 minutes each. The ballot for
each proposal will be Yes, No, or Non-applicable. Donna will provide membership ballots at the door with a
current membership list. This
motion passed unanimously.
The Kings Point continuing
issue was tabled until the next TA Executive Board Meeting on April 9, 2009 at
1:00 P.M. in the Maintenance Conference Room. The next meeting of the TA General Membership will be March
18, 2009 in the Florida Room at 4:00 P.M.
The meeting was adjourned at
3:25 P.M.
Respectfully
submitted,
Carol Holbrook
